Haiku - Reflection

frost and ice cloak
this hidden place beyond road
and winter trail

downward rushing stream
sings sun and wind in its
headlong descent

dark branches above
hold light in their glossy ice
all reflected within

icy bough arching
over water — enfolds
old Buddha laughing

While rambling in the icy woods yesterday, I encountered the Buddha's happy countenance within an icicle suspended over my frozen stream in the Lanark Highlands, and that happy discovery is what prompted this haiku sequence - the photo itself, "Buddha By the Stream" precedes this blog entry.
