Haiku - Musics Far and Near

Windbells in Nepal,
flutes playing beyond the hill,
wren's liquid answer,

spices in the night air,
smoke of vendors and braziered carts,
chai in small cracked cups.

Drifting this evening
among Mahler's songs of the earth,
memories returning,

city and old mountains
far apart but woven together
in the rosy twilight.

Listen, bells and strings
are playing in perfect tune,
across the hills and years.
